my mom is 48 years old. she has been dyeing her hair for about ten years now, ever since her roots have been turning white. she's always had her hair home-dyed, either having my dad or me dyeing her hair. she has dry and damaged hair but her scalp has ALWAYS been healthy. always. no history of any dandruff. until now.
just recently, my mom's scalp has become pink, flakey, scaley, and itchy. she is shedding dandruff like no tomorrow. i'm not sure whether it's an allergic reaction to the dye or she has wacky hormones. she dyes her hair every three weeks. i want her to stop dyeing her hair for a month and see what happens, but she insists on dyeing it, for the sake of looking younger. why could this be and what can i do about it?
btw my mom has black hair and an Asian ancestry.

So, basically, she tried a new brand of dye, but the next day her scalp, nd forehead were pink. They were swollen. She stopped using the dye.
It's most likely an allergic reaction =]
Tell her to go to the doctor, and in 1 month, she'll be able to dye her hair again.

That sounds more like a reaction then dandruff. Dandruff is actually very rare - most people just have dry scalp with little flakes....if you had dandruff the flakes would be about the size of a quarter and smell really bad. Try to get her to switch to a more gentle type of hair colour.
